We are a husband and wife shop in Staunton. One of us is usually out front, so the person answering your question is the person who owns the place, and the person who sets the price.
Why we opened it
Both of us grew up hunting in the Shenandoah Valley. Deer in November, turkey in the spring, squirrel with the kids when the woods are quiet. Between us we have spent a lot of years buying guns and gear, and plenty of those years were spent standing in a big store waiting on somebody who had never been in the woods to unlock a case.
So we built the shop we wanted to walk into. One counter, two owners, and all the time in the world to answer the question you actually asked. We keep our prices as low as we can because everybody should feel like they can shop here, and if we do not carry something we will say so instead of selling you the closest thing on the shelf.
How we do business
Straight advice, the best price we can put on it, and no pressure, ever. In our eyes the customer is right: if something is not sitting well with you, tell us and we will make it right. We would rather sell you the correct rifle once and see you every season after than sell you the wrong one today.
We also take responsible ownership seriously. We talk through safe handling, safe storage and how to keep a gun away from anyone who should not have it, because that is part of the sale and not an afterthought. Ask us anything, at any experience level. That conversation is the part of this job we like best.
This is home, not a territory
We hunt here too
Augusta County, the George Washington National Forest, the farms and ridges in between. When you ask what a rifle needs to do at two hundred yards on a windy hillside, we have stood on that hillside.
Neighbors, mostly
Our customers come from Staunton, Waynesboro, Verona, Fishersville and all over the valley. We see them again at the ball field and the feed store, and that keeps us honest better than any policy would.
New shooters welcome
Plenty of folks walk in having never touched a firearm, and plenty have hunted forty seasons. Both are a good day for us. Bring your questions, all of them, and we will go at whatever pace you want.
